Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the questions building occupants most frequently ask about the building. Reviewing them may help answer questions you have.
If there are any matters you feel should be included here, or if you have a question not answered below, feel free to use email your question to info@alfagroup.com, or contact the building staff directly.
Why do some of the overhead flourescent light fixtures in my office area appear to be permanently out?
Overhead fluorescent light fixtures that are not located over a desk or other work surface may contain phantom tubes that do not illuminate. These substitute for light tubes in non-working areas to help reduce the level of energy consumption in the building and may be mistaken for burned out tubes.
On occasion, however, desks and offices are moved under a fixture that contains phantom tubes, resulting in insufficient lighting to the work surface. In such cases, contact the building superintendent at 416-598-4088 who will put the correct light tubes in the fixture.
Fire Drills have interrupted meetings I've been involved in. Can I ignore the alarm if I know it's only a drill?
The Fire Code states that fire drills in commercial high buildings are required at least once every three months and that participation by building occupants is a requirement.
It may help to remember that all of the persons on your floor helping in the evacuation are volunteers who are working with procedures and equipment that may not be familiar to them. Your co-operation will allow them to concentrate on practising their tasks without being distracted by persons who are not following the emergency procedures. Remember that they have been interrupted in the middle of their own work and are trying to ensure that they are practised in the emergency procedures so that they can operate efficiently if and when a real emergency arises.
